Wood Boiler Transport

Wood boilers, especially a Crown Royal stove, are very heavy units. Even though the boilers are stout, they're designed to be moved easily when handled the right way.

There are a few ways to lift a stove. First, and preferred, is to lift from the bottom — either with 6' forks from the front using the fork pockets built into the stove, or from the side using 4' forks with a 2x4 laid between the legs the long way to support the stove and prevent damage to the siding.

The second option is to lift from the top hook. The boiler is well balanced, but be careful — it will sway when lifted this way.

No matter which option you use, make sure the machinery being used can handle the weight. If lifting with a skid steer or forklift, factor an additional 50% onto the boiler's weight to compensate for the length.

When strapping to the trailer, use the stake pockets on the legs as tie-down points. Use a strap or chain on each leg and cross them if possible to keep the boiler from shifting. Bind down to the trailer, tightening as much as possible, and make sure all doors are latched to prevent opening during transport.
